Boarding Now: Destination Equal Skies
A pioneering UK conference to enable aviation and aerospace businesses to make the most of an often untapped pool of talent among people living with a disability is being held in London next week.
Boarding Now: Destination Equal Skies will look at positive examples of where disabled people have been incorporated into the workforce, and will include a workshop on Heathrow Airport’s journey to becoming a disability confident employer.
The conference has been organised by a number of aviation sector organisations in support of The Equal Skies Charter. Including the UK’s aviation disability charity Aerobility and air traffic control company NATS. The Civil Aviation Authority is also one of the partners in The Equal Skies Charter.
The principal aims of the Charter are to build a world where people with a disability have equal access to the benefits and opportunities provided by aviation and aerospace industries.
Harvey Matthewson from Hampshire-based Aerobility said: “By changing the sector's view on disability we will open aviation, aerospace, and the skies to all.
“Our conference aims to educate industry professionals on how make the most of the wealth of untapped disabled talent.”
Boarding Now: Destination Equal Skies is principally for human resources and personnel professionals in the aviation and aerospace industries who are eager to revolutionise their workforce.
The half-day conference is being held at the offices of law firm Shoosmiths in London on the 30th of April from mid-day, and will feature keynote speeches from former actress and musician turned aviator Charlotte Storey, Brian Wheeler, the Deputy General Manager of Swanwick, NATS, and Russell Porter, Head of Future Flight Engagement at NATS.
Guests will also have the opportunity to join the conversation in three workshops covering inclusive recruitment, how to integrate people with disabilities into the workforce and Heathrow Airport’s journey to becoming a disability confident employer.
